Sound Therapy & Sound Healing

Sound therapy – relaxation, emotion regulation and inner balance

Sound therapy is a complementary form of relaxation guidance that uses sound, frequency and vibration to support relaxation and inner balance.

Within my approach, I work from the principle that everything in and around us is in vibration. Through carefully applied sounds, I invite body and mind to let go of tension, to come to rest and to reconnect with the here and now.

During sessions I work with a variety of sound instruments, including singing bowls, alchemy bowls, quartz crystal singing bowls, powwow drums and other resonance instruments. Where appropriate, a sound bath may also be used, in which the client is immersed in a complete field of sound and vibration.

In today’s society, many people experience prolonged stimulation, mental pressure and a heightened state of alertness. This can make it difficult to relax or to truly come to rest. Sound therapy can play a supportive role in that process of relaxation, slowing down and growing awareness.

Support for relaxation and wellbeing

Sound therapy is often experienced as supportive for:

  • Releasing stress and tension
  • Deep relaxation and moments of recovery
  • Emotion regulation and dealing with inner stimuli
  • Calming an overactive stream of thoughts
  • Enhancing body awareness and grounding
  • Supporting focus and mental clarity
  • Creating inner calm and space
  • Restoring balance between thinking, feeling and experiencing
  • Deepening breathing and relaxation
  • Strengthening the connection with yourself and your own rhythm

Many people who become overstimulated easily, who are often "in their heads" or who find it hard to relax experience sound therapy as a moment of slowing down and returning to calm. The sound and vibration are often experienced as a gentle yet deeply working form of support in this process.

Approach

Each session is tailored individually and is built up with care and attention. Sound instruments such as singing bowls, crystal bowls, alchemy bowls and drums are used intuitively to create a fitting sound field that matches the person and the moment.

There is always attention for calm, safety and attunement. Throughout the session, the client retains control over their own comfort and experience.

Sound therapy is not aimed at making diagnoses or treating medical or psychological conditions, but at supporting relaxation, awareness and wellbeing.

Contraindications and points of attention

Sound therapy is in principle a gentle, non-invasive method, but in certain situations extra caution or attunement is necessary.

Situations in which extra caution is needed

  • Epilepsy (particularly stimulus-sensitive forms)
  • Acute psychosis or severe psychiatric dysregulation
  • An unstable medical condition or the immediate recovery phase after an operation
  • Pregnancy (particularly the first trimester or in the case of a high-risk pregnancy)
  • A pacemaker or other medical implants (particularly with intensive body resonance)
  • Severe tinnitus or hypersensitivity to sound (hyperacusis)
  • PTSD or trauma-related complaints with strong physical reactions
  • Migraine or neurological hypersensitivity

General points of attention

  • The intensity of sound and vibration is always carefully attuned
  • The client indicates what is experienced as pleasant and safe
  • Sessions are built up calmly, without overstimulation
  • In case of doubt, it may be advised to first consult a doctor or specialist
